What is the message being sent?
1. Obama’s speech revolved around one central topic: change. America is going through a ruff patch and our nation has changed for the negative. Obama believes that together we will be able to change. With hope and courage we will defeat the economic crisis and fix the corruption that lead to our down fall. With a little bit of help from everyone, Obama believes we can fix everything from the school system’s to the war in Iraq.
How is the speech delivered? For example, eye contact, volume, tone, note card use, etc.
2. Obama’s speech was delivered with a variety of different things. When his speech began he kept his hands folded but than through his speaking, especially during topics that people are sensitive about ex.the war, he constantly moved his arms around, and spoke with his hands. He also looked around a lot, paying attention to the entire audience and spoke at a medium volume. He did not scream but spoke calmly.
On a scale of 1 - 10 (10 being the highest), how would you grade this speech? Why?
3. I would give the speech an 8. I liked the speech a lot; he was very clear. His vocabulary was easy to understand making it possible for everyone to understand. I liked that he brought up past wars, showing us that we have been through so much and in the end we made it out okay. I really liked this line “We are the keepers of this legacy”. The only thing I didn’t like was that he didn’t talk about how we are going to solve any issues, he simply gave us hope.
Were there any sources of interference during this speech? If so, what were they? (Use page 21 as a guide.)
4. In the beginning when he was swearing in there was a lot of wind. When his speech started I didn’t hear it anymore, the audience was very quiet but of course, cheered every once in awhile. Also the microphone messed up a few times, but it didn’t last long.
How would you improve this speech?
5. To improve this speech I would suggest that he actually put some passion into his voice when speaking. He was very mono tone and did not show excitement or any emotion really at all. I also believe he should have talked more about what was going on and gave examples on how we are going to fix our economic crisis. While hearing the speech I was filled with hope, but in what?
